The Lodge's name  “Ingwenya” derives from the Zulu word for crocodile. It was quite logical to choose a name for our lodge indigenous to Zululand, in this first world heritage site of South Africa.

Ingwenya Lodge is situated on the "outskirts" of the residential area of St Lucia. The property borders the nature reserve with a view of both the sea and the estuary, a very unique privilege in St Lucia.

The surroundings are very peaceful and hippos graze often at the entrance of the Lodge during the night. Small game frequently wanders on the premises and a rumor of a leopard in the area has been going around.

The self catering units are named after the five feeder rivers of the  St Lucia estuary: Mpate-, Nyalazi-, Hluhluwe-, Mzinene-, and Mkuze River and the Mfolozi that flows out to sea very close to the  St Lucia estuary.

Facilities includes a new ± 80 000l swimming pool, additional freezing facilities, DSTV (bring your own smartcard), safe and a hiking trail that starts from premises. Units are serviced daily and air conditioned!

Ingwenya Lodge offers a conference package for up to 18 persons. Lots of outdoor activities available like deep-sea-fishing, tours to game reserves, boat trips on the estuary, whale watching, turtle tours, kayak safaris and a visit to the crocodile centre etc.

• Mpate: (1 bedr, 1 double bed, 1 bathr with shower) Double storey great sea-view, private boma. (2 sleeper)
• Mzinene: (1 Q size double bed, 2 single bed, 1 bathr with shower, 1 bathr with bath) Ground unit, sea-view. (4 sleeper)
• Hluhluwe: (2 bedr, 1 Q size double bed, 2 single bed, 1 bathr with shower) 1st floor great sea-view, wooden deck, Weber. (4 sleeper)

Please Note:

• All units with fully equipped kitchens.
• Unit Mzinene's single beds are in the living area.
• Unit Hluhluwe has an open plan layout (bedrooms not completely private from each other). (steep stairs to unit)
• Unit Mpate is a small romantic unit with steep stairs leading to the bedroom.
• Unit Mkuze and Nyalazi - brand new luxury units.
